October 2, 2004 -- "Going Home Sweater"

Obviously since I'm pregnant, I've been looking at making baby-related crochet things. The "Going Home Sweater" set was the first sweater I ever tried to make -- for babies or not!

I had imagined that the sweater would be done in pieces and then sewn up but this was worked from the neck down and other than extended the sleeves it was all one piece! I loved that and wish I could find an adult pattern like that. The other appeal was that the whole thing was mostly just dc's. I didn't want to try a more complicated sweater pattern my first time out.

I used leftover Red Heart baby sport yarn from a mile-a-minute afghan I'd already done before. Instead of doing it all solid, I chaged colors to make it striped on the lower half and to use up as much of the leftover stash as possible.

I carried the button holes all the way down but I still haven't found buttons to match the sweater even though I went to Mom's house to dig around in her button collection. Sooner or later the perfect buttons will emerge and then I can just sew them on.
