October 3, 2004 -- Barb's Seamless Crocheted Baby Hat (drawstring bag variation)

I print patterns from the 'net and save them until I have enough to take to Kinko's to spiral bind.  In the meanwhile, the ones I want to try are in a folder and the ones I do successfully go into plastic sheet protectors and a binder.

I like to make this hat for other people's kids because it's fast, simple and doesn't require a whole lot of work. The link has a picture but for my own reference here -- a copy:

Pattern

2 ch 1, work 10 sc in ring, do not join w sl st, keep working in rounds

3. 2 sc in ea sc around (20 sc)

4. work 1 rnd even (20 sc)

5. 2 sc in ea sc around (40 sc)

6. work 1 rnd even (40 sc)

7. *1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc*, rep from * to * around (60 sc)

8 continue working sc in rounds until cap measures 8" from top to bottom

9. end off, weave end into outside edge

10. turn up 2" cuff

VARIATION: I've given away all my examples of this including the ones I changed into round drawstring purses for the nieces. You just make the hat, and when you deem it long enough, do 3 rows of dc's across the top and join with a slip stich.

Make a drawstring with a ribbon or crochet a cord with a long chain and then sc's into it and fasten off.  You need 2 lengths.

Weave the ribbon (or cord)  in and out of the first row of dc's and tie off. Repeat with the other length.

Now when you tug on one cord in one direction while tugging the other cord in the opposite direction, it closes and the remaining dc's look like a ruffly top.
