October 5, 2004 -- Paul blanket.

Went over to my mother-in-law's house to celebrate all the September birthdays since we had not had a chance to get together when they happened individually. It was fun to have pizza and cake and we stayed up very late sitting around chatting.

While I was there, I got Whit to help me get photos of Paul's blanket for the blog. Here is Paul:

I remember how hard he worked on this trying to get it done in time to give to his mother on Mother's Day in 2001. We met her and his sister at Chili's after we did our first 5K race together in Lakeland and when Mom opened the blanket both she and Angie ooohed and asked me how long it took to make. Paul smugly told them I didn't make it -- HE made it. Then he sat back and enjoyed their shock/surprise.

It isn't from any book or a certain size.  I'd taught him how to do basic dc's and he just made chains until he felt like it was wide enough. He invented a "V" shape cluster based on dc's that he felt was close enough to be warm but open enough to be airy and not too heavy. After some false starts working out the cluster spacing problems, he kept it up until he decided it was long enough and he stopped.

These days he is working on a green striped ripple afghan for himself but because it is a book pattern and it requires following directions it is taking him a lot longer than making the one he made up. He's giving it a bit of a rest though because he's also dealing with his synthesizer building.
