31 , 2003 -- Sewing Machine and quilt My
sewing machine did NOT come for Xmas. I was annoyed because I'd been promised
Xmas delivery. After I called the company up they tell me their supplier hasn't
even gotten them the machine! I don't see why they couldn't have told me this
as soon as they found out instead of making me wait thinking it was coming and
have me call them to find out what happened. I ordered on Dec. 9th for pete's
sake. At least they gave
me a full refund. Sigh. So
I ended up checking if amazon.com had restocked it and they had so I ordered it
and guess what? I got a delivery of Jan 29 - Feb 15th but it's already gone from
KY to TN and it's on it's way down! Yay! Maybe it will come early! :) I'm
planning a small quilt as my first sewing project because it's mostly straight
line sewing. I'm using one of Winky Cherry's books for kids -- My First Quilt
Book -- as my instructions. I've got other sewing project books but this one is
the easiest so I'm starting there. I
got some patritotic theme fabric and washed it. Now I have to iron and cut and
then I'll be ready to piece. This is sort of what it will look like:
Here's
a closer look at one block:
I'm
not using any kind of quilt planning software -- that was just from me fooling
around with Photoshop. But the main fabric is beige with tiny little American
flags all over it. The blue chunks are starbursts in a sort of ivory. Then the
red is just red and white stripey fabric. I'm not usually one for Americana so
I don't know what made me choose flag-ish fabric. Paul
said he's going to watch me do it first and if it looks easy and fun, he's going
to try to make one in dinosaur prints. KNowing how he is with gadgets, he'll pick
up machine sewing faster than me!
