Front Post and Back Post


Post stitches are worked around the vertical part of a previous stitch rather than into the front or back loops.

For a front post stitch, you insert the hook from right to left from the front of the work

For a back post stitch, you insert the hook from right to left from the back of the work.

Examples:

Here front post double crochet stitches are mixed with single stitches to create a pattern of rectangles.

 

The back of the work is in stripes.

Ch even number of stitches to desired length.

Row 1: Sc in second ch from work and in each ch across with color A, changing to color B in last sc. Ch1 and turn work.

Row 2: SC in second loop from hook and in each loop across. Ch1 and turn.

Row 3: SC in second loop from hook and in each loop across changing to color B in last sc. Ch1 and turn work.

Row 4: SC in second loop from work. Fpdc in stitch that matches next stitch but on 2nd row below. You will be skipping the loop right behind the fpdc. Come back to original row and make SC.

Alternate SC and fpdc all the way across in this fashion.

Ch1 and turn work.

Repeat rows 2-4 until desired length.
