Ring

Julia just inserted her toddler ring to the toilet so I set her on it and she peed. That was an easy cue!

Earlier while waiting on her carrots to steam she got mad about the delay in eating lunch and ran around the kitchen signing "eat" frantically and further protested by taking her panties off and flinging them around. Twice.

So I know she knows how to do it if she really wants to. The trouble with panties is getting her to do it before going to potty like she removes her tabbed diapers.

Chugging along

Update: 14 mos at the end of this week.

Julia now can be understood by other people besides me and Paul. She hisses "Ssssssss!" at people and smacks them on the leg to let them know she wants to go. So other relatives can now take her... usually grandparents.

Her timing is still a bit wonky -- sometimes she announces her need WAY too soon. She gets bored sitting and we get bored taking her 2-3 times before she gets the show on the road.

Paul taught her to say "Done" when she is finished. She sometimes uses it correctly, sometimes just says it to be let off early. He didn't warn his mother about this when she babysat so Julia surprised Nana by announcing "Done!" once she got her sitting on the potty.

Last weekend she flipped out at Nancy's house. Refused to use their bathroom and would cry because she had to pee. We have no idea what scared her so. No problems this weekend. Paul took her to a restaurant toilet and a man overheard him say "ssssss!" at her to go and he joked from the next stall "I don't know if that's doing much for her but it's helping me out!"

She can understand simple commands and be talked through the process with a potty chair.

She hisses. Then I talk...

"I hear you... you have to potty. Ok...Diaper off. Take the diaper off."
"Now find the potty. Where is it? Very good -- that's a potty."
"Sit on the potty. Put your bottom on the seat. Sit on the potty. Ok, you are sitting."
"What do we say on the potty? (She hisses) That's right... Sssssss."

And if on the toddler ring on a regular toilet...

"Where is the flush? (She points to it, but not strong enough to pull it yet)"

Has a vague idea toilet paper goes around her crotch somewhere but still too keen on just unrolling the whole roll and tearing it up so we don't let her handle it much.

Will return the potty insert to the potty after it is emptied and cleaned out. Can't yet figure how to replace it properly but at least gets it back to the chair.

Will step into panties to have them pulled up when told to come put them on, but still gets confused as to how to take them off herself so we're sticking mainly to cloth fitted diapers so she can undress on her own and go with direction.

Still sobs if she has an accident and tries to get naked and throw away the offending diaper. Trying to get her to call out "Pee!" or something louder than just hissing because while hissing is a nice reliable cue, I can't hear that when I'm cooking dinner in the kitchen and she's in the crib playing.

Poop is still mainly a case of being available when it's her poo time at night and just getting her on the toilet. She goes spacey-eyed and blanks out and forgets or doesn't realzie she can say "Sssss!" to alert us.

But basically chugging along.

Assertive

Julia grows more assertive about her need to go.

Today while in a diaper she came over and hit me on the leg to get my attention and hissed at me. "Ssss!" So I took her and she pooped in the toilet.

Later she watched me go to the bathroom and as I was leaving she cried out, picked up and held her toddler ring out to me and hissed. So I put it on the toilet and put her on the ring and she peed.

She also hissed when helping me collect laundry in the garage (pee).

Training panties give her trouble though. She doesn't know how to manage to get them off herself and ends up going in them. Still hissing though... so she is announcing the need but then getting stuck in the maneuvering of her underpants. She can get herself out of diapers much easier.

Maybe I can make her a one tab diaper? So she can rip open one tab to loosen it up, and still pull down the other side like a panty?

Teaching her panty removal is hard.

Its getting around the playgroup that I make diapers for Julia. Two moms have already asked me if I sell them on ebay. Flattering!

Sssss!

Took Julia to post office and gorcery in training panties with no cover and she stayed dry. Yay.

She's saying "sssss!" as a cue to go now -- after hearing us say it so many times it's cool she's using it too. At last! A VOCAL cue!

ONe accident today while outsdie on the porch. It was windy and I didn't hear her say "SssS" but when she jumped up and beat on the front door to go back in I realized what it was. We didn't make it in time. I have to either bring the potty to the porch or keep it jsut inside the door -- from outside to green bathroom is too long a walk.
