September 16, 2000 I can't
believe I'm writing this, and Cat may want to kill me, but.. It's starting
to get cold!! I went to Wal-Mart this afternoon to get an indoor/outdoor thermometer
and a pair of lined windpants. I'm about to get those on for my three miles today,
and tomorrow afternoon we go hiking. Mt Major is technically a mountain, but it's
really a big hill. So an active weekend for me! Even if it is cold. ;) posted
by Adrith 3:57 PM An excerpt
from my online journal caffeinated
fish, formerly vigilance.. "Joe and I have some excellent neighbors to
our apartment's left - a small family, the Weatherbees. George and Ursula have
a sweet boy, named Joe (hereinafter referred to as Little Joe, for obvious reasons),
who just turned three years old. Today, as I was doing my training session,
Ursula and Little Joe was out on their lawn playing with Little Joe's birthday
trucks. We exchanged pleasantries and I went on my way. On lap three, after
having had a running neighbor pass me three times, I decided that I was going
to try my one minute run/three minute walk scheme for a while and see how I did.
At the end of lap four I was just finishing up one of my running sprints. As I
approached my car where the Holy Water Bottle rested, Little Joe came running
towards the street (followed closely by his mum). She leaned down to grasp Little
Joe's jacket, and as she straightened up, said quietly, "You're doing great."
I said, as loud as I could, "Thanks." After four or five running cycles, it came
out as a loud whisper. "We saw Adrith!" Little Joe pipes up. Ursula and I say
"Yes, you did!" "And she was RUNNING!" he says loudly. He is clearly impressed..
as impressed as a 3-year-old can be. So, there you have it folks -- from Little
Joe Weatherbee, the three-year-old in the know. I am a runner." 3 miles
in 58 minutes. Between 6 and 7 minutes of running intervals in there, which is
pretty good considering that for the first 23 and the last 10 minutes, I did straight
walking. The new pants feel GREAT. They don't chafe, they are nice and warm
and I wasn't uncomfortably hot on my run. The running was hard, I won't deny that,
but it felt like a very good workout. It's great to be back! posted

Pretty exciting things afoot for us, but I can't tell what they are unless
they firm up. Wish us luck anyway! This weekend we are going to Disney and
we will be taking photos of parts of the course. We've planned this before, but
weather or something always came up. Well, weather looks good so let's hope it
happens! I really want to get a feel for it! Rearranging my schedule the rest
of the week so I can do an extra long stint Sunday. Details later -- kind of tired
right now. posted by Cat 'Astrophe' 12:28 AM

Training Walk 9/12 - Focus: 3 miles
- Duration: 30 min
- Distance:
3 miles
- Where: gym, crosstrainer
I forgot my music at home,
and I had a bad headache after I got really into it from my ponytail whapping
me. I have very thick, heavy hair and now that it's creeping past shoulder length
it's time to cut it. I have to have it pulled back or else I sweat and it sticks
to me and I don't like that. But with a ponytail this heavy it hurts my temples
from the sheer weight of it and gives me a headache. Ew. So back to a short haircut
and headbands to keep it off my face. Other than those two small annoyances
it went fine and still holding that 10 min average on the crosstrainer. Next session
I am going to do half on a treadmill and see what the discrepancy between the
two is. Let's hope for happy ankles! posted by Cat 'Astrophe'

Into the new groove, heh. I really think that hauling a full bag of golf
clubs over 3000 yards, or almost two miles, should count for a seven mile training
walk. And for those that really care, I hit an 83 on a par-fortysomething nine
holes. posted by Adrith 8:57 AM
I'm running out of time and I am still going back and forth
over the Disney 10K.
The website says 15 min pace, when I called they said walkers are welcome if they
can keep a 17 min pace. I'm nervous because even though I know I can go faster
than those on a crosstrainer, on the ground it is very different. At the Mayfaire
5K I was squeaking with 15ish min but that was only 3.1 miles. I was getting tired.
This one is 6.2 miles. Paul says he's fine going, and I have two other races as
options, but c'mon. This one is the ideal because I'd get to try out part of the
course around the Epcot showcase. Leukemia's Team in Training is going to do it
as part of getting ready for the Marathon. I guess this week I'll just sit on
it and make up my mind by this weekend. Secretly I feel pressured, so I might
just do the UCF 5 Mile race instead. Almost the same distance but much more low-key
than a Disney event. I know I want to and I need to do my 2nd race, but ARGH!

September 10, 2000 Ok, I'm being a total slacker.
Ugh. We have to do some yard work to make the front yard tidy and then hopefully
we can go biking and that will be my crosstraining. Even so, I'm being totally
unreliable about posting my notes and that makes me totally unreliable about going
to gym. I need to get into this new groove pronto -- there's only 16 weeks of
this left! posted by Cat 'Astrophe' 5:10 PM
