Week
Two: Fine-tuning Strategies:
This
week is the week where we got organized. We both were receiving materials from
the NF organization like training T-shirts, nutritional
info, fundraising advice, walking and running schedules, etc. Training and fundraising
materials found a new home in binders, organizers, index card files, and on computer
systems. The training blog got a new streamlined appearance, to go with the new
pages at the Road to Orlando website.
Wow -- we went from a training log to a whole website. We realize that this venture
is going to be a lot bigger than either of us imagined.. We took a good hard look
at our eating habits, and decided that it was time for some modifications.
Astrophe's dietitian and Adrith's WW leader both pointed out neither of us was
getting enough protein as athletes in training. This made us laugh -- we were
athletes?! Taking the advice, we upped the amount. As it turns out, whether
you are a practicing vegetarian or a Weight Watcher, you still find yourself wishing
that someone would invent a new kind of protein source. You get tired of the old
standbys very quickly.
Physical
considerations reared their ugly heads for the first time. Between side stitches,
cramps, and headaches, there were more than enough excuses to NOT exercise but
neither of us missed even one training session. Our resolve is unmoved. We talked
about bad evenings, receiving the training T-shirt and how it would shrink if
washed in hot, and how sometimes it was very difficult to press on. We also talked
about how good it felt to finish, knowing that we had not compromised and ended
a workout any earlier than we needed to.
"All
you need is a plan, a road map, and the courage to press on to your destination."
- Earl Nightingale
