Week 9: First Quarter

Nine weeks into this project, and we've completed 25% of our training and raised $625 towards out goal of $5000! We've each overcome many challenges and shown progress in many ways. A brief inventory of some of the places we've been over the last nine weeks?

Adrith has...

  • experimented with different ways of monitoring her food intake from food logging to weight watchers and lost ten lbs
  • set up our training blog and worked on other training website pages
  • broken her previous records of five weeks on an exercise regimen by almost doubling the length of time
  • outlasted many of her walking partners and started to jog, even hitting up to 4.1 MPH in her interval training
  • got new sneakers, socks, clothing and other fitness gear like a hydrapak to take on longer sessions to stay well hydrated
  • joined a gym for bad weather days that don't allow outdoor workouts
  • solved allergy, hamstring aches and leg cramping problems
  • improved distance from under 2 miles in 54 min to more than 3 miles
  • Exchanged links with others to her fundraising areas
  • Finished her first 5K in 57:18, meeting her goal of finishing in under an hour
  • improved from a 20-min mile pace to an 18 min, 18 sec mile
  • logged more than 70 miles walked to date

Cat/Astrophe has...

  • found shoes and orthotics to solve her underpronation problems
  • discovered thick, wicking Thorlo socks don't cause blisters like her former cotton or thin wicking socks
  • improved from 2.8 MPH street walking to 3.6 MPH street walking
  • improved from 3.5 MPH gym walking to not quite 6.0 MPH gym jogging
  • improved her mountain biking skills and her distances road biking -- up to 30 miles over a weekend
  • started seeing a dietitian
  • working on strengthening a weak ankle
  • participated in her first 5K race and finished in 49:38,meeting her goal of finishing in under an hour
  • changed to wicking fitness shorts to deal with heat and avoid chafing
  • got a hydrapak following Adrith's lead
  • coping with summer allergies
  • learned to stretch better so her calves don't hurt
  • worked on training website pages and other fundraising efforts
  • set a personal record of 11.5 miles in 2 hours and 15 minutes
