Week Ten: Breakthroughs
Rainy
days continue to make it hard for us to stick to training and get on-line to update
our notes. We keep going as best we can and turn to other things that need doing
like fundraising, correspondance, planning, and looking to alternative workouts
for bad weather days. "I
am getting fidgety. Took Sunday and Monday off voluntary, got rained out yesterday
-- if it's really bad tonight and we flood again I'm not going to try to get to
gym. Am I going to be stuck doing videos? Ugggggggh." Cat/Astrophe
"I
haven't been walking much this week. I did, however, make up a six month calendar
that goes from 2 July to 13 January -- it covers two sides of a sheet of poster
board, lists all of the UNH holidays and important dates in the academic year
(like when finals start and end), and has -- get this -- 127 training walks and
18 cross-training sessions. Kee-ripes!" Adrith
Despite
the weather problem, there are some more happy moments and breakthroughs!
"Oh-so-close to eighty miles!
[walked total since the start of training] In actuality, I probably went over
eighty, but as I forgot to look at the odometer on the treadmill, I don't feel
comfortable posting that amount. I can post 2 miles, and make that a solid bid.
(BattleTech terminology, anyone?) It felt just great to see 3.4MPH, as it's the
first time I've done it!" Adrith
Food
is another challenge we face. Not just eating healthy now during training so we
have the energy to get through it with strength, but testing possible snacks to
take along on race day so we know what will agree with us.
"I also have to go back to an
eating plan, because I think part of the problem is so much weight on this poor
frame of mine. But I can do this. I CAN DO THIS. If I'm brave enough to put my
name on a list of Disney marathoners, I can certainly eat right and make strengthening
my body a priority." Adrith
"Power
Bar Vanilla Crisp? Yuck. I like the crispies but the vanilla has this chalky taste
that reminds me of the glop they make you drink when you do X-rays." Cat/Astrophe
