Training 3/2 - Schedule:
8 cycles of 1 min jog/4 min walk
- Distance: 3.1 miles
- Duration: 60 min
Got up at 4:40 AM so I could eat breakfast and drink water and have
plenty of time to digest before I went out. I hate this rotten weather. I really
don't like getting up this early, but I hate running in heat more. It was 87 deg
yesterday and with the humidity it felt like 90 something. Ugh. Ugh. Today's high
is supposed to be 83, but rather than have it get hotter later and have it throw
me out of whack, I decided to just bite the bullet and go out at dawn, get it
over, and enjoy the 70 deg. instead. Doesn't nature KNOW it's suppose to be SPRING?!
It
felt ok, but tough. The first three cycles were pretty groovy. The fourth and
fifth were ok, but I could tell I was starting to feel kind of blah. My upper
abs were aching. By the time I got to the sixth and seventh cycles I was screaming
for the minute of jogging to be over. I kept picking out light posts or rocks
and telling myself if my beeper didn't go off to tell me to stop jogging by THIS
post, I was going to exert my veto power and quit the jog interval right there
DESPITE my watch's dictums. Unluckily (or luckily) the item I picked seemed to
be just after the beep went off, so I never cut a jog interval off before it's
time. Just entertained many evil thoughts of beating my watch against the asphalt.
The last cycle? I was ready to kill. I kept screaming, "Shit! Shit! I'm dying!
Shit!" in my head. I was also feeling nauseated. Too big a breakfast. But after
doing 7 cycles what's one more to finish the workout? I hung in there as best
I could and finished all my cycles but I then cut the cooldown short so I could
get home and scarf down some Mylanta ASAP. I feel better now.
I'm definitely
not breaking any records for speed here. My walking intervals are below
my best training pace. I have to walk sloooow to gasp in air after a jogging burst.
What I need is a free nose. I have a feeling if I could breathe like a normal
person I could handle this better. I wouldn't have to slow down so much in walking
to gasp in air like an out of water fish.
I think next week instead of
moving up to the set of 90 sec jog cycles I'm going to repeat the 60 sec one another
week. I'm just not feeling ready to bump it up yet.
