Today's two miles - 43°, 4928 steps, 372.9 kCal burned.

Learned a valuable lesson today. I was trying to count seconds as I was running, so that I could figure out where a minute of running ended. When I finished my running sprint, I was out of breath, and my calf muscles felt like they were on fire.

The problem? When I'm counting seconds in my head, I'm not paying attention to my running - so I sped up. I ran faster than usual, and because of that I ended up exerting myself a whole lot more than I planned to. I ended up standing in front of my apartment after 1.5 miles, ready to bag the run, but decided instead to do the last half mile as usual - running very slowly if I had to, in order to complete it.

The lesson? There are two:
1. It's not the speed that counts, it's the mileage; and
2. PAY ATTENTION to what you're doing!

I ran this morning. The usual 2 miles.

The running sprints are getting much easier - it makes me think it's time to increase the amount of time running. Right now my running sprints are between 40 and 50 seconds long - I think the next step is a minute long. I'll try it tomorrow, and if it feels as good tomorrow as today's runs felt today, I might even try the new length sprints on the long wog on Sunday.

Gosh, I'm feeling brave. Maybe I should run every day..

My Internet connection has been down or weird for the lat two weeks. It's on shaky ground now. Paul's trying to fix our router problems.

Work is wearing me out, I feel brain dead every night. But I am walking -- Got my 4 miles done last night and today is supposed to be what? 2 miles? I'm not sure. Mostly I throw on some Monthy Python or Fawlty Towers, look on the scheduel to see what the goal mileage is, walk on, and then just C R A S H.

Sleepgin deep and dreamless. That's the bright side.

Yesterday was a rest day, for which I was incredibly thankful. When I got up yesterday morning, I was incredibly stiff and sore from the previous night's four miles.

Now, of course, I'm starting to freak out. "I didn't work out yesterday! I didn't exercise at all! ohmygodI'mgoingtobackslide andI'mnevergoingtorunagain andI'mnevergoingtofinishDisney andI'mnevergoingtorunafullmarathon.."

I need to slap this minipanic out of my head. A regular 2-mile wog should do nicely.

Well, my houseguests didn't leave until 9. Went over to see John and Kelly for a bit, then returned home.

It was about midnight. It was still warm enough to run in a short-sleeved tee, with a nice cooling wind. So I decided to do the rest of my run. I run down Westgate Ave. At the end, I turn left onto Martha's Way. I run down the length of Martha's Way, and at the circle I turn left onto the structure of parking lots I've taken to calling White Cliffs Way in the training blog.

I hear a rustling in the bush up ahead. "Kitty!" is my first thought.

Except, when the animal runs out into the light, the kitty has a long, bushy tail.

A long, bushy, WHITE tail.

And a black body, with a white stripe down the back..

AIEEEE!!

I stop. I watch the skunk skitter safely off into the woods. Then, and ONLY then, did I start up my jogging sprint. And at the end of that lap, I called it quits. I'll try again tomorrow morning.

Summary for Sunday:
Steps: 2479
Miles: 1.5
Calories: 314.8

Heh. The alarm went off at 5 AM. I started to cry. Joe suggested I go back to sleep. Thirteen hours later, I was out running, for the run I was supposed to do yesterday.

To summarize - four miles. 10,875 steps. 924.5 kCal burned. And no "kitties".

Considering the fact that I haven't done four miles alltogether since what, August, I feel pretty good. I'm guessing I've got a blister on my right pinky toe, but that's only because some idiot forgot the blister block. My lungs are a little tired (it's been a while since I've done twelve jogging sprints in one sitting), but not uncomfortably.

And now I'm hungry. Excuse me - dinner's ready.

Arrrgh.

I got up this morning at 8:45 with the full intention of following up last night's short wog with a long wog of four or five miles. However, after all was said and done with breakfast, and dressing, it was 10 AM.

I went out - did a once-around the building as warmup, and started in. I walked the first mile, but when I started in on my jog, something just felt wrong. Was it the blaring sun? Was it some undigested bit of oatmeal?

Don't know. But I'm going to give it another try tonight - if I start at 4:45, I should be back inside before it's completely dark out. And if it gets dark faster, oh well. That's what street lights are for, right?

Oh, and it's D-minus-eleven weeks. Eleven weeks from RIGHT NOW, I'll be standing at the marathon finish line, waiting for Beth .. having determined my own fate in my own race. God help me.
