  • What:treadmill walk
  • Distance:0.6miles
  • Steps:1991
  • Duration:15 min
  • Speed: 2.5 mph
  • Heart Rate: 112

Same bat place, same bat channel. Even trying it at 2.5 mph gave me too much variation to use the data to calibrate. Dammit. :P

  • What:treadmill walk
  • Distance:1.0 miles
  • Steps:2510
  • Duration:20 min
  • Speed: 3.0 mph
  • Calories:119
  • Heart Rate: 126

Got my Thursday walk in, but still too much variation in speed to be usable data:

I'm just going to have to try walking slower to see if I can get it to be more flat and plateau like so I can calibrate. Right now it's too wavy and it thinks I'm going 4 mph rather than 3 mph.

I wish I remembered what speed I did when I calibrated it before. I don't recall having so much trouble. I wonder if I can go back in archives to find out?

Nrrgh. Missed my walk Monday because Julia's cluster feeding and I can't get away from her. Then last night I specifically asked Paul to make sure I got up from my hour nap so I could walk and he decided to let me sleep for 4 hours because I was so tired. Undermined! So too late to walk -- we showered and went to bed.

I *will* calibrate my sportbrain! I *will* walk!

8:20 PM

Things I've done for myself today:

1) I slept when Julia slept all day. Now when Paul takes over this evening I'll be rested enough to walk rather than nap.

2) I ordered two more Aquahooks so if I ever find the blue one, I'll have three -- one for every bottle of water I keep refrigerated. Paul collects soda cans in the fridge --I collect 24 oz water bottles.

3) I logged my food into FitdayPC as best I could. Mom's still cooking for us so whenever I eat Mom's food I guesstimate since I don't know her recipes.

I'm a few days shy of a month but FitDay tells me I'm down 38 lbs. That's the 36 lbs from pregnancy, plus 2 lbs more, people.

I'm thrilled that pregnancy weight has pretty much all gone! I was worried about having it stick around given my problems with losing weight because in 18 months we wanted to start trying for kid #2.

So now I'm super curious to see how things over the next month go weight loss-wise since I'm not taking Glucophage for insulin resistance while nursing. I have my endoc. appt. to see if I am taking enough thyroid medication and talk about this time in between pregnancies and if I'll go back to BCP or stick to condoms to avoid having to take more pills.

I'm not hoping for the dramatic loss like this first month post-birth but it would be nice to see a downward trend continue!

Nrgh. Have to try it again tomorow for calibrating. Even though I tried to keep an even 3 mph pace, for whatever reason I didn't quite manage it -- too many changes in speed to be usable data:

But at least I got the walk done so there's that much out of the way.

  • What: treadmill walk
  • Duration: 25 min total (5 min warm up @ 2.7 mph, 15 min workout at 3.2 mph, 5 min cooldown @ 2.7 mph)

Saturday I got three cheap sport bras at Walmart. They're not wicking and they're not nursing sport bras but right now I don't care. When I'm doing longer walks in the park and have to take the stroller and baby along with me I'll worry about nursing sport bras then.

Bras aside, it was weird being dressed for a walk. Other than the fact that I've got breast milk dribbles on my shirt I felt almost pre-pregnancy normal.

Bally's sent me another letter to get me to renew my membership. I went around and around on that one last year before finally doing it. I'm probably going to put it off until the walks get really long and cabin fever from home workouts starts to bother me. I know Holly wanted to try LA Fitness with me when I'm ready to give their trial pass a whirl. It would be more expensive than just renewing at stinky ol' Bally's but if it's that much nicer I'd consider it. With the weather warming up I also keep thinking about getting another pool pass. I miss water aerobics and weekend swims with Holly.

Training-wise I was going to wait until my postpartum check to start but I'm getting too restless. So I'm starting with the first round of easy walks from The Complete Guide to Walking by Mark Fenton. It takes it 8 weeks to get up to 40 minutes of walking and then after that it starts adding more time, cross training, speed, etc. Somewhere in June I'll get on with an actual half marathon schedule... probably the Walking Magazine one or the NF(Galloway) one. There's a marathon schedule in the book too but I just like the ones I've done in the past so I stick to what I know.

Today's walk was an easy 15 min walk while we were watching Biloxi Blues. I warmed up and cooled down for 5 min. each time at 2.7 mph and then did the actual walk at 3.2 mph. It was fine although I couldn't find my Aquahook anywhere so I had to have my water bottle on the floor.

I also have a problem with my Sportbrain. I suspect tomorrow's workout will be spent recalibrating the darn thing because it gave me bizarre values. I can believe the ones on bold as being close to what it actually was becaues the treadmill readout told me so. Can't verify with my Polar watch because the batteries are dead and I need to get new batteries.

Oh, since coming from hospital my best sneaks have gone AWOL so I had to use an older pair.

I didn't realize all my fitness stuff is spread all over the house!

  • Distance:1.7
  • Steps:3419
  • Duration:26 min
  • Speed:4.1 mph
  • Calories:226
  • Heart Rate: 150

Tomorrow I have to fiddle around with it and recalibrate it all and see what the matter with it is.

So this is me on Day 1 of half-marathon training. A modest start, but I've started nonetheless. Yay.

Julia slept the whole time in her nearby bouncy chair.

Be cool when she's big enough to be entered in family races like the Kid's Crawls. Hee hee. :)
