Excerpt from the Disney newsletter I got today:

Training Tips from the Race Staff
So it’s April and you are beginning your training for the 2005 WALT DISNEY WORLD® Marathon or Half Marathon. There are four essentials that must be adopted whether you are a seasoned veteran runner or a beginner.

First, find the right shoe for you. Enlist the help of your local running shoe expert to find the shoe that is appropriate for your foot needs. It is the only absolute equipment needed.

Second, plan your work and work your plan. Write down on paper how you plan to increase your long run and follow your plan. Post it where you and your family can see it on a regular basis.

Third, get into the habit of stretching for 10 minutes after every run. Focus on the major muscle groups; hamstrings, quads, calves, back. Schedule it as part of your run so you have time to get it done.

Fourth, get into the habit of drinking water on a regular basis. You don’t have to record amounts to the exact ounce, but if you develop the habit now, you will find recovering from those long runs will be easier.

ENJOY YOURSELF!

It's time to buckle down and get serious. Yikes.

  • What: Treadmill walk
  • Duration: 12 min @ 2.5 mph and 11 min @2.7 mph
  • Distance: 1.0 miles

Still trying to calibrate. Did two short 0.5 mile walks at 2.5 and then 2.7 mph trying to flatline. Didn't happen. Blah. But the 2,7 mpoh walk only had two spikes. Going to try it at 2.8 and see if that's better tomorrow.
